TANNERIES, MEAT PROCESSORS
AND WOOL SCOURS

Applying Goldseal in process environments (Ph1-12) — where wet chemicals are used in association with wash down procedures and condensation — kills, passivates and prevents steel corrosion.

Processing environments are challenging for surface coatings as they often don’t completely dry out. They involve machine vibration and conveyor chains that all involve wet chemicals, heat, vibration and condensation. These wet chemicals find their way into cracks and behind flanges and panels, often drying out and crystallising on horizontal building frames. As this builds up over years and years, they relentlessly attack maintenance coatings.

Goldseal IHS excels in processing environments where other products can’t.

50 years ago, it was processing environments that drove the development of Goldseal’s Industrial Hot Spray formula. Paints of that era would only last 3 years and while surface coatings have come a long way, so has Goldseal. Today, there are a range of chemical resistant coatings available but Goldseal continues to deliver an enviable package of benefits.

Goldseal IHS should be applied after 5 - 8 years where coatings show early breakdown in unwashed chemical environments. Where coatings first break down at joints or are stressed by temperature changes, producing cracking or chipping, Goldseal Cold Spray is an excellent long-term and cost-effective solution.

20 – 30 years of field performance documented in Ph environments from 1-12 confirms Goldseal’s durability, without requiring regular maintenance washing.

  • Dairying

  • Mine ore processing

  • Cement production

  • Galvanizing

What are wet chemicals or chemical combinations?

  • Lime

  • Sulphuric Acid

  • Chrome Sulphate

Teys Australia Murgon has used Goldseal since 1998. Items painted in 1998 are still
holding up well. We have used Goldseal again on high corrosion areas and we know the items will not need to be repainted for a very long time. Goldseal gives us peace of mind that the structural items used in the hide processing facility will be in great condition for a considerable length of time. Very happy to recommend Goldseal as a protection for structural items in corrosive environments.

Operational benefits

Speed  – Without the need for abrasive blasting, whole processing areas can be prepared and coated in one shift, minimising shutdown time.

Versatility – One application on new or corroded surfaces or in confined spaces encapsulates environmentally-unfriendly coatings, reducing the need for their removal.

Protection – A high-solids and highly flexible barrier coating extends the service life of steel exposed to salt, chemicals and moisture without cracking, peeling or developing corrosion cells.

Longevity – Recoating is only needed every 15 - 20 years without stripping previous coats.

Efficiency – Protect your contract budget with a straightforward application of Goldseal IHS in any highly-corrosive environment.

Simplicity – We work to reduce contract complexity while optimising health and safety.

Safety – Goldseal IHS has no dangerous goods rating or shelf life limitations.

Our recoating advice

For maximum steel longevity and the prevention of steel loss, we recommend recoating approximately every 20 – 30 years. Recoating only requires a pressure wash and minor corrosion rectification that is completed by our team, meaning fast, cost effective shut down periods.

Teys Australia, Murgon, Queensland

26 years after the first coat of Goldseal was applied to raw steel inside the tannery, it is still in great condition and only requires maintenance moving forward. All the steel that was not originally coated in Goldseal had to be replaced, including purlins and roofing iron.

Industry Examples

AFFCO

In 1975, New Zealand’s largest meat processor had their new steel portals coated in Goldseal IHS for a variety of processing departments. Today, Goldseal continues to work with AFFCO throughout the country.

Teys Australia Murgon

In 1998, Goldseal was applied to a variety of differently-aged applications in their leather tanning facility. In 2024, the site was reinspected and the steel was still in great condition, despite having been in a wet chemical and salt brine environment for over 25 years. To maintain steel longevity, Goldseal would recommend applying a recoat this year.

INDUSTRIAL HOT SPRAY

An anti corrosive oil-based barrier coating, designed to soak into your steel and protect against all external elements.

COLD SPRAY

A light, cold solution designed to be applied by your own maintenance teams.

10 YEAR GOLDSEAL GUARANTEE

Minimum guarantee of corrosion protection when our in-house team applies IHS to your steel.
