CONFINED SPACES
Applying Goldseal inside enclosed, highly-corrosive environments provides 100% protection for your steel from all external elements.
Goldseal IHS excels in processing environments where other products can’t.
Goldseal’s oil-based compound is specifically designed for highly-corrosive, damp, and low-temperature environments. It can be applied directly onto oxidised steel as well as galvanizing and old paint systems, without abrasive blasting. It penetrates oxidation and displaces moisture, encapsulating, killing, and passivating existing corrosion.
Goldseal IHS is a 97% solids formulation that is applied molten and has a VOC rating of 2.9%. It can be applied to bridge bearings, voids or steam and condensation environments. It can also be used in situations where no air movement prevents the use of solvent borne coatings or coatings containing catalysts. Goldseal IHS is the ideal solution for maximum corrosion protection, minimum down time, and lengthy service life for extreme unwashed environments.
Enclosed, highly-corrosive environments
This is where Goldseal would have the most impact.
Barges, voids and pontoons
Water treatment plants
Cool store attics
Condensation environments
Cement plants
Alpine sites
“Goldseal was applied to our 35 metre barge to combat corrosion in several bilge spaces where sandblasting and painting was impossible… I have no hesitation in recommending the company and their product to anyone having a similar requirement and application.”
50 years – How long the Goldseal formula has been killing, passivating and preventing steel corrosion in confined and highly-corrosive environments.
5 reasons confined spaces speed up corrosion
Closed environments can challenge surface coatings in many ways.
1. They have surfaces that accumulate dust and dirt
2. They can be damp, making them difficult to prepare, clean or coat (like alpine sites)
3. They are often condensation environments that produce steam (like shaft or pile interiors, attics or machinery that’s near refrigeration)
4. They have poor airflow which stalls the cure of solvent or water-based paints (like water treatment plants and sewage works)
5. They may have previous coatings that didn’t completely dry, trapping water molecules under a film
6. They can be low temperature areas which can restrict cure (like mines and tidal power stations)
Our recoating advice
For maximum steel longevity and the prevention of steel loss, we recommend recoating approximately every 20 – 30 years. Recoating only requires a pressure wash and minor corrosion rectification that is completed by our team, meaning fast, cost effective shut down periods.

Industry Examples
Barge Interiors
In 1987, the barge interior of BHP New Zealand Steel was inspected and the bilge was cleaned — though some rust scale could not be completely removed — prior to applying Goldseal IHS to the interior walls and framing. A year later, we assessed the heavy scale areas to find that Goldseal had penetrated these areas and softened the rust scale. The lower hull and bilge areas were re-coated and another inspection in 2009 showed Goldseal to be in good condition — having delivered a 22 year service life.
Cool store attics
A classic area of condensation damage, the upper layers of a cool store panelling are prone to corrosion. The joints of these polystyrene panels can absorb moisture, which freezes and adds tons of weight to the cool store ceiling. In one application, Goldseal IHS can neutralise the corrosion and seal the joints, offering the perfect solution for extending the longevity of older buildings.
Sewage digester hoods
The hidden cavity above the sewage digester in wastewater treatment plants has proved to be the ideal environment for Goldseal IHS. It has been applied to many steel digester lids for maintenance — both in situ and when removed or lifted.
